My family loves traveling together, we use this moments to bond after a period of long projects at work. Fortunately, doing so nowadays are not as expensive as it used to be. This may be the reason why traveling gained a lot of popularity across all social segments.

Having fun outside your comfort zone might be fun most of the times, but it can also be grueling at times when upset stomach or traveler’s constipation hits you.

One of the major cause of traveler’s constipation is a sudden change on your diet. Chances are, you consume more fiber rich food at home, coupled with fruits and veggies on the side then here comes airline and airport food which lacks the usual fiber you’re accustomed with.

Jetlag is another culprit. Change of time zones can disrupt your body clock. With this change plus the unavailability of a decent toilet, your brain sends a signal to your gut that the timing is not right to move your bowel.

Another suspect would be that buffet breakfast you are presented together with your hotel stay. Since most of them serve eat-all-you-can meal, you are left with no choice but to enjoy carelessly which later on can lead to indigestion.

Cutting back on liquid to avoid frequent trips to the toilet are also to be blamed. Doing so does not only lessen your urination, dehydration also hinders your bowel to move.

Having said all the above, I believe you will still push through with that vacation trip nonetheless. Here are some tips to prevent constipation during your trip.

  • Stash some fiber rich crackers or trail mix during long haul flights and chew on them instead of junk foods.

  • Don’t overdo cutting back on liquids. You can drink a little, just increase the frequency.
  • Go ahead and indulge on that buffet, It doesn’t come often, but please choose the right food that are easy to digest and have just enough. Abstain from gluttony!

Another helpful hack would be to bring along JustUme Fiber Plum, It is made out of Japanese Umeboshi Plum treated with herbal extracts that will keep you away from constipation.
