Jonathan Yabut Shares Life Lessons along His Path to Living Brighter

Sun Life Financial Live Brighter campaign continues to empower Filipinos to gain financial literacy that will eventually improve their way of living. Their company’s current campaign targets the Millennials that are considered to be the most sustainable generation that can further uplift the nation’s acumen on issues pertaining to finances.

Apprentice Asia first ever winner Jonathan Yabut was tapped to give a talk to inspire digital influencers and aspiring financial advisor last May 24 at A space Greenbelt. Attendance was full to the brim as he engages everyone by sharing what he learned throughout his journey from a heartbroken nobody to the celebrity status that he is known now. 

Quoting several excerpts from his book “From Grit to Great”, Jonathan walks us through his sentiments and how he was able to overcome the hurdles he went through while growing up until he landed a stint on the reality show to his tenure at Air Asia all the way to his current business JY Consultancy & Ventures. He pointed out work principles that he lives by in order to achieve his current status.

Success is driven by mindset

Yabut quoted Carol Dweck’s Growth Mindset theory research on whether individuals attributed success in tasks that required intelligent behavior to having sufficient natural ability as opposed to having practiced a skill and improving performance through learned experience.

It was proven that individuals with growth mindset fared better in an organization because they attribute success to learning. Hence, these individuals are not terrified of failure and are in fact driven to pursue more attention and invest more effort to succeed.

I have attended a couple of these sessions and can attest that I have gained a lot of useful knowledge that I can put into practice. Live brighter sessions can motivate individuals to create their own success stories and inspire others.

Apart from Jonathan Yabut, Sun Life Financial advisor JP Cruz also gave insights about his career and personal journey.  He shared about how he hit rock bottom on both his finances and personal relationship, and what he did to overcome the struggle. Cruz is now a very successful Sun Life Advisor managing his own team. He is also happily married and just like the company that he is with, he finds accomplishment in helping other people in achieving their lifetime financial security.
