How prepared are we for the future?

I have been dealt with this question over and over again, to date, I still find it hard to address it.

Most Filipino might be able to relate with me, with the present economic situation we are dealing with, this scenario won’t be hard to comprehend. Yet, you will be misaligned how Filipinos treat financial matters.

High ticket items over Health

In a recent SWS poll commissioned by a leading insurance provider Sun Life, it reflected that Filipinos claim to be prepared to make expensive purchases, despite having health-related concerns.

It showed that 1 out of 2 Filipinos are planning to make an expensive purchase within the next 2 year with 9 out of 10 are actually ready to fund it. Yet 7 out of 10 of the respondent are worried about uncertainties brought about by health related concerns.

Remember how netizens bashed Internet sensation couple Jamich’s Mich Ligayu when she raved about her excitement on getting the new Iphone 6 amidst her partner Jam’s deteriorating health. This came at a time when they were asking for financial help from the World Wide Web to help fund Jam’s hospital expenses for his Lung Cancer.

“There seems to be a disconnect between the Filipinos’ priorities and concerns and the way they financially prepare for these. They are worried about their health and possible illness but they do not prepare financially,” Riza Mantaring, Sun Life president and chief executive said.

She furthers that most of Filipinos rely solely on their active income or on other people to fund their needs. “What we need to remember is that wealth and health go hand in hand. By making sure that the right products are availed of to prepare for both wealth goals and health needs, Juan can be more fit to live free,” Mantaring said.

“As our nation prepares to commemorate the day when our forefathers claimed independence for our nation, Sun Life is taking the lead in the Filipinos’ quest for a different kind of freedom - that of the financial kind,” said Riza Mantaring. “In these modern times, money problems keep us from fulfilling our goals and becoming the best that we can be. We’d like to change that so we can be a nation of financially independent people.”

In order to address the matter and help Filipinos act on their financial concerns, Sun Life is launching the #FIT2LiveFree campaign this Financial Independence Month.

This aims to inspire Filipinos to take care of both their wealth and health in a fun and interactive way, Sun Life will make available digital content to engage the public.

In preparation for this, a Digicon was organized last June 8, 2015 with several social media influencers in attendance.

it's sad that many Filipinos bare such attitude towards money spending.. it's not really surprising that even we are experiencing economical crisis, you can see malls still being so crowded.. this must be a very interesting campaign

Good health is really wealth, so it's important not only to prepare financially but also to maintain proper diet and lifestyle. Securing an insurance will really make some of the worries away.

I have had my share of listening to financial advisers trying to sell me insurance, so I am not too excited about these events. I have bought various kinds of insurance. I hope they fulfill their purpose when the time comes.

I've been more future-centric lately because the sooner we plan it the better chance we get to secure it and have the necessary funds.
