I recently came across a question raised by British born Indian essayist Pico Iyer “Are you travelling or simply collecting places?” this led me to think deeper and evaluate my own travel habit.
Mr. Iyer noticed that travelers nowadays deem their destinations as menus. According to him, people see their itineraries as tasting of cultures rather than truly entering them. He also mentioned that we travel the surface instead of feeling and understanding its essence.
Travelling for me means taking a breather from stress, to be away from the daily grind and recharge my energy and creativity. Exploring different places and cultures broaden my outlook in life.
Thankfully, going places seems more achievable nowadays with airlines offering more affordable means of transportation as well as opening of lodging alternatives that gives more people the chance to fulfill these experience.
