I have a confession to make, I am not a superhero fan and the closest thing I came to watching a superhero movie was when I was forced to watch Spiderman 2 since my kids invaded the AV in our room. The romantic angle kind of helped me finished watching the film without sliding into slumber.
The Avengers is another thing, I was a bit irritated to find out several moons ago when the film hoarded most of the cinemas in the metro without giving non-superhero fans like me an option. This made me wonder if I’m part of an extinct species.

When I first got a glimpse of the poster of Ant-Man (which I wrote in a previous article), it was my son who pointed out that he wanted to watch the movie, Squinting my eyes to check the poster with a tiny object in the middle stirred my curiosity.
When I got an invite to watch the blocked screening of the film at the Newport Cinema, Resorts World Manila which was organized by PMCM Events and When In Manila, I told myself, I might just go ahead and submit to my curiosity , hoping it wouldn’t kill me.
According to Marvel, Ant-Man is one of the founding member of The Avengers armed with an astonishing ability to shrink in scale but retain its weight and strength.
Watching the movie gave me a sense of viewing from a cinema and reading it thru a comic book.
I didn't notice the chyron that stated 20 years earlier in the initial scene and was surprised to see a much younger looking Michael Douglas that I instantly asked if he recently had a botox procedure. Michael Douglas (Dr. Pym) founded Pym Technologies and the person responsible for developing the shrinking technology.
Dr. Pym was forced to hide it from his partners to prevent them from using it mainly for the purpose of making money and in return causing chaos to mankind.

Paul Rudd (Scott Lang aka Ant-Man) was imprisoned due to hacking a complicated banking system which he claimed he did to undo unfair practices of a certain company. He was forced to accept Dr. Pym’s offer in order to have a chance to have visiting rights to his daughter.
The film also stars Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross (aka Yellowjacket), Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip "Ti" Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale and Jordi Mollà as Castillo.
Movie-goers will be fully engage in every scene and this is the type of movie that you can watch even if you hadn't sleep the previous night.
Noticeably, the movie did not even dwell on a love angle or even suggested one until the very end.

Every scene was wittily executed with several scenes creatively injected with a comedy twist like whenever Luis relays a story with his voice syncing with the mouth of the flashback scene.
Oh, did I also mention I hate ants, but seeing them all throughout the movie was tolerable.
This early, I can already tell that we’ll all be waiting for part 2 of Ant-Man.
I wouldn’t go through with the spoilers and encourage y’all to watch this movie, it’s worth every penny you’ll spend. Ant-Man started showing in cinemas July 15, 2015.
